Where We Are With ServiSeek

By Ben Mottram ยท Published 2026-07-01

Building ServiSeek has been one of the hardest, most interesting and most rewarding things I have ever done.

The idea started with a simple frustration: finding good local services should not be this difficult.

If you need a cleaner, gardener, plumber, dog walker, beauty treatment, tutor, decorator, mechanic or almost any other local service, the process can still feel messy. You search online, ask Facebook groups, message a few people, wait for replies, chase quotes and often never really know who is available.

Local businesses have the other side of the same problem. Many are good at what they do, but they spend too much time chasing leads, answering vague enquiries, paying for advertising, replying to people who disappear, and trying to stand out in a crowded market.

ServiSeek was built to solve that problem.

The idea is simple: customers post what they need once, and local providers nearby can respond if they are available and interested.

Instead of customers chasing providers, the request goes out and providers can come back with a response.

That is the core idea behind ServiSeek.

What We Have Built So Far

ServiSeek is no longer just an idea.

We have built and launched a working mobile app on iOS and Android. Customers can create requests, describe what they need, add photos, choose dates and locations, and receive responses from local service providers.

Providers can create profiles, choose the services they offer, set their area, receive relevant requests and respond to jobs that suit them.

The app already includes:

  • Customer job requests
  • Provider profiles
  • Local matching by category and area
  • Photos on requests
  • Chat between customers and providers
  • Booking flow
  • Reviews
  • Notifications
  • Report and safety features
  • Google, Apple and email sign-in
  • App Store and Google Play availability

That might sound simple when listed out, but building even a basic marketplace is not simple.

A marketplace has two sides. Customers need providers. Providers need customers. Both sides need trust. Both sides need communication. Both sides need the app to feel useful before the marketplace is fully active.

That is the hard bit.

What We Have Achieved

We have gone from concept to a real product that people can download and use.

We have onboarded hundreds of early users, including a strong number of local service providers. We have seen real customer requests posted inside the app. We have seen providers respond. We have seen bookings happen.

That matters.

It proves the basic idea works.

People do need local services. Providers are interested in responding to real local opportunities. The reverse marketplace model makes sense.

We have also learned that getting the product built is only the first part of the challenge.

The bigger challenge is making the marketplace active enough, trusted enough and useful enough that people come back.

That is where our focus is now.

What We Have Learned

The biggest lesson so far is that a marketplace has to create confidence quickly.

Customers need to feel that if they post a request, something useful will happen.

Providers need to feel that responding is worth their time.

If a customer posts a job and gets no response, they may not come back. If a provider responds to lots of jobs and never hears back, they may stop bothering.

So the product has to do more than just connect people. It has to guide the process.

Customers need help describing jobs clearly. Providers need better ways to respond. Both sides need reminders, trust signals and a clear next step.

We have also learned that price is not the only thing customers care about.

They want confidence. They want someone who understands the job. They want clear communication. They want to know what is included, when someone is available and whether the provider seems reliable.

For providers, we have learned that the best opportunities are not always about replying first or being cheapest. A good response, a clear profile and professional communication can make a huge difference.

That is why the next stage of ServiSeek is about improving the quality of the interaction, not just adding more users.

What We Are Working On Next

The next big focus is improving provider responses.

At the moment, a response can be too vague. We want to make it much clearer what a provider is offering.

The response options we are working on include:

  • Fixed quote
  • Hourly rate
  • Ask for more information
  • Request a visit

This matters because not every job can be priced in the same way.

Some jobs are simple and can be quoted from photos. Some need an hourly rate. Some need more information. Some need a visit before anyone can give a sensible price.

Giving providers better response options should help customers compare replies more easily and make better decisions.

We also want to allow providers to be customers.

That sounds obvious, but it is important. Local providers need services too. A plumber may need a cleaner. A dog groomer may need a website designer. A gardener may need a mechanic. Allowing people to switch roles helps increase marketplace activity and reflects real life more accurately.

After that, we are looking at payments, customer protection, stronger business profile pages and a referral rewards system.

The aim is not just to create another directory.

The aim is to create a practical local services platform that helps customers get things done and helps good local providers win more work.

Why Trust Matters

Trust is at the centre of everything we are building.

Customers are often inviting someone into their home, garden, car, business or personal space. Providers are giving their time and relying on customers to be serious.

That means ServiSeek has to help both sides feel safer and clearer.

We already have reviews and complaint handling in place, and we are continuing to build more safety and trust features as the app grows.

Over time, business profiles will become more important. Providers should be able to show previous work, photos, certificates, insurance, areas covered and the services they offer.

Good local businesses deserve a better way to show customers why they can be trusted.

What We Are Trying To Build

The long-term goal is bigger than simply posting a job and getting a reply.

We want ServiSeek to become the easiest way for people to find, compare and book local services.

For customers, that means:

Post once. Get responses. Compare clearly. Choose with confidence.

For providers, that means:

Find real local opportunities. Respond professionally. Build trust. Win repeat work.

The vision is a fairer local marketplace where good providers are not forced to keep paying for poor-quality leads, and customers are not left guessing who is available, reliable or suitable.

We are starting locally because local trust matters.

ServiSeek is being built from the ground up, with real feedback, real testing and honest lessons along the way.

The Honest Bit

We are not pretending everything is finished.

It is not.

There is still a lot to improve. We need more customers posting requests. We need better response rates. We need stronger trust features. We need smoother booking flows. We need better provider profiles. We need to keep improving the app until it becomes genuinely useful every day.

But we have built the foundation.

The app exists. People are using it. Providers are joining. Jobs are being posted. Responses are happening. Bookings have happened.

That is a strong place to build from.

The next stage is about turning early activity into a proper working marketplace.

What Comes Next

This blog will be where we share progress, product updates and honest lessons from building ServiSeek.

We will talk about what we are building, what is working, what is not working yet, and what we are learning from customers and providers.

Building a local services marketplace is difficult, but the problem is real.

Finding trusted local help should be easier.

Winning good local work should be fairer.

That is what we are trying to build with ServiSeek.

Thanks for following the journey.
