Meet George from Jackson & Co Plumbing: bathroom refits near Southampton

This article is part of the ServiSeek local business spotlight series, where we speak to local service providers available through the app.

For this first feature, Ben spoke with George from Jackson & Co Plumbing, a plumbing and bathroom refit business based in Eastleigh, near Southampton.

Jackson & Co Plumbing started with plumbing work, but George explained that the business has grown into a much stronger focus on bathroom refits.

“We do still do plumbing work,” George said. “Anything really, central heating, hot and cold, anything like that. But mainly we are focused around bathroom refits now.”

That includes everything from a straightforward “out with the old, in with the new” bathroom update through to full refits, remodels and design-led projects.

If you are looking for a plumber or bathroom fitter in the Southampton, Eastleigh or surrounding area, Jackson & Co Plumbing is available through the ServiSeek app.

From plumbing to bathroom refits

George started Jackson & Co Plumbing because he wanted to build his own business.

His background was in plumbing, but as the business developed, he began taking on larger jobs. After doing a bathroom as a favour for someone, he realised that bathroom projects were where he wanted to focus.

“Now this is what we’re doing,” George said. “We do it day in, day out.”

The team now includes George, an apprentice and another fitter, which means they can manage more than one project and keep work moving.

What Jackson & Co Plumbing does

Jackson & Co Plumbing mainly works on bathroom refits, but still covers plumbing work as well.

From the interview, their work includes:

  • Bathroom refits
  • Bathroom renovations
  • Bathroom remodels
  • Bathroom design support
  • Plumbing work
  • Central heating related plumbing
  • Hot and cold water plumbing
  • Supply and fit bathroom projects
  • Organising other trades where needed

George also mentioned using Easy Bathrooms as a trusted supplier.

That matters because bathrooms are not simple jobs. A proper bathroom project can involve plumbing, tiling, plastering, flooring, fittings and sometimes extra trades. If the customer has to organise all of that themselves, the project can quickly become stressful.

George’s aim is to manage that process for the customer.

Where Jackson & Co Plumbing works

Jackson & Co Plumbing is based in Eastleigh, near Southampton.

George said he generally works within about an hour’s travel from Eastleigh. That can include areas such as:

  • Southampton
  • Eastleigh
  • Andover
  • Basingstoke
  • Lymington
  • Sway
  • Chichester
  • Surrounding areas within reasonable travelling distance

As with any local service business, exact availability will depend on the job, location and schedule.

The problem with half-finished bathroom jobs

One of the strongest parts of the conversation was George’s view on how bathroom jobs should be managed.

A common frustration with trades and home improvement projects is when someone starts a job, disappears to another site, then leaves the customer chasing for updates.

George said this is something he tries hard to avoid.

“Once you pay a deposit to book in for that date, that’s your date,” he explained.

For a standard bathroom, George said they usually allow around two weeks. Once Jackson & Co Plumbing is on the job, the aim is to keep someone on site until the work is done.

“There will always be someone on site working on your job until it’s done,” he said.

That is a big point for customers. A bathroom refit is disruptive. People need to know when the work is happening, who is turning up and when they are likely to get their bathroom back.

Supply and fit, without making the customer organise everything

George also explained what “supply and fit” means for his business.

It is not just supplying the bathroom products and fitting them. It also means helping organise the other parts of the job.

That might include plastering, tiling, flooring or other trades depending on the project.

George put it simply: the customer should not have to spend the whole job asking who is coming tomorrow, when the tiler is arriving, or whether the next trade has been booked.

The idea is that Jackson & Co Plumbing handles that organisation as part of the project.

For busy homeowners and landlords, that can make a big difference.

Bathrooms for different types of customers

Not every bathroom project is a luxury remodel.

George explained that Jackson & Co Plumbing works with different types of customers.

Some want top-end products, layout changes and a full redesign. Others want a bathroom freshened up without breaking the bank.

That might include landlords preparing for new tenants, homeowners updating a tired bathroom, or people planning a more complete renovation.

As George put it, customers “come in all shapes and sizes.”

That flexibility is useful because the right bathroom is not always the most expensive one. It is the one that suits the property, the customer and the budget.

George’s advice on planning a bathroom project

One point George made was about timing.

He prefers not to book too far ahead. Around three months is the kind of window he described as workable, because it helps keep jobs moving and avoids projects drifting for too long.

That is worth remembering if you are planning a bathroom renovation.

Before speaking to a plumber or bathroom fitter, it helps to think about:

  • What you want to change
  • Whether the layout needs moving
  • What budget you have in mind
  • Whether you want a practical refresh or a full redesign
  • When you would ideally like the work done
  • Whether you already have products in mind
  • Whether you need supply and fit or labour only

A good provider can then help you work out what is realistic.

Why businesses like this matter to ServiSeek

ServiSeek exists because finding local services can be harder than it should be.

Customers often have to search online, message several businesses, wait for replies and hope someone is available.

Providers have the opposite problem. They can spend time quoting, messaging and chasing enquiries that may not go anywhere.

ServiSeek is designed to make that process clearer.

Customers post what they need once.

Relevant local providers can respond if the request fits their work, location and availability.

The customer can then compare responses and continue the conversation.

Jackson & Co Plumbing is a good example of the kind of local business ServiSeek is built to help people discover.

Thinking about starting a local service business?

A lot of people have useful skills but never turn them into a proper local service.

That could be cleaning, gardening, tutoring, beauty treatments, pet care, photography, decorating, admin support, repairs or something else local people need.

Starting a business still takes work. You need the right skills, insurance, pricing, reliability and customer service. Some services may also need qualifications, checks or legal requirements.

But if you are serious about offering a local service, ServiSeek can give you a place to start finding local requests once you are ready.
